For teachers, social workers, school personnel and anyone interested in learning Spanish

Register today to be a part of  the Summer 2008 program to learn Spanish and study Guatemalan society.  Session One will look at Mayan culture and Session Two will explore how the Guatemalan education system has had an impact on our immigrant students.

Most teachers and social workers in the U.S. have noticed a steady increase in the number of children and families that they work with who have recently immigrated from Mexico and Central America.  This program will help you communicate with these families and to understand the culture of their home countries. You will return much better equipped to help these families to succeed in their new land.

Five hours of graduate credit (quarter hours) from Portland State University will be offered for an additional $550 fee.
